Lots of good stuff happening this weekend in Helsinki. Foolish Felix and I-f are in town on Friday and on Saturday it’s time for Low Phantasy. This month’s international guest is JG Wilkes from the mighty Glasgow club institution Optimo (be sure to check out their comprehensive website!). The leading Finnish Optimo fan Marko Makelove will also be playing some records with Schmami and me. The tickets are way cheap and a night full of amazing dance music is guaranteed. See you!
The New York-based dj and producer Jacques Renault, one half of the project RUNAWAY as well, will soon have new material out on Rekids and I’m A Cliché. He was kind enough to share this unreleased edit with us.
If you happen to be in Manhattan on a Tuesday night, be sure to check out 205 Tuesdays, which Mr. Renault runs with DFA’s Justin Miller. The guys also recorded the latest DFA Radio Mix together. And if all goes as planned, Jacques will visit Helsinki on his European tour in the summer. Watch this space!
I’d had an idea brewing for a “beatless mix” for a couple of years already. The final selection ended up including some more percussive pieces as well, but the result is still rather tranquil. No dance music this time.
Neu! - Seeland
Can - Future Days
Bertrand Burgalat - Le Pays Imaginaire
Dennis Wilson - You And I
J.J. Cale - You Got Something
David Crosby - Traction In The Rain
Pharoah Sanders - Upper Egypt & Lower Egypt

I don’t know about you, but I did in fact get obsessed with this campy and magical CBS favourite. Here it comes in its full seven minute glory, waiting for the summertime to begin in the Northern hemisphere.
It seems a whole gang of Norwegians are coming to town this weekend and of course, if you ask us, you should at least check out the six-hour disco voyage at Nolla on Saturday. Rune Lindbæk from Oslo and MMGBI’s own Jaxxon will feature on the decks with the Low Phantasy residents, Schmami and myself.
BTW, Rune’s latest mix on 24:hours includes exclusive goodies from the Idjuts, Lindstrøm, Prins Thomas etc. Certainly worth a listen!
Ok, I have to admit I know almost nothing of Le Le except for them being apparently Dutch, ‘Breakfast’ being a cool track (could I even use the word jackin’ here?) and the video way beyond average.
I’ve been hearing a lot of talk lately about the new ‘jackin’ sound of house. Well, as my lame-ish dj name suggests that’s what I’ve been into for last eight or so years. Although I can’t really relate some of the wobbliest fidget stuff to the concept, I welcome Jack back. So without further words, 55 minutes of house to jack to:
Jaxxon - From Bauhaus To My House
Romanthony: Body Language
Funky Transport / Jonee Q: Shake It (Derrick Carter Remix)
Marcus Mixx: Shake That Thing
Crookers: My Penny
Chemical Brothers: Boot It Again (Mowgli Mix)
Syclops: Monkeypuss
Nifty: Nifty
Tom Tom Talk: (demo)
Arthur Russell: She’s The Star (Pocketknife Remix)
DJ Deeon: Bomb 96 (Hood Mix)
Late Of The Pier: The Bears Are Coming (Joakim Remix) edit
The Count Of Monte Cristal: Dibby DJ
The Bulgarian: Listen Man
Asylum Seekers: It’s Up To You
Bobby Konders: The Future (Edit)
Marc Houle: Techno Vocals (Acapella)
Oh yes, thanks to everybody who came over to NOW! last night!
Not many hours after the Lindbæk post I got some mail from another Norwegian disco maestro, Todd Terje. Here’s his fine Stevie rework, which hasn’t been aired anywhere yet besides Shari Vari in Olso last weekend.
